This dance is inspired by our present historical moment. Resistance to authoritarianism has long been expressed through dance, from Isadora Duncan and Kurt Jooss to Martha Graham, Katherine Dunham, Anna Sokolow, the New Dance Group, and others across the 20th and 21st centuries.

In reimagining work created a century ago, we ask how it resonates today. Cultural shifts shape how art is embodied and shared, and elements such as music and costuming are reconsidered to reflect the urgency of the present.

As legacy holders of Duncan’s work, we honor its origins while allowing inquiry to guide our choices, prioritizing contemporary experience over strict adherence to the past.
